Description
His Worship Charlie Clark
Mayor of Saskatoon
"State of the City" Address
Tuesday, April 11th, 2017
TCU Place
Charlie Clark is the new Mayor of Saskatoon. He moved into the role of Mayor after being the City Councillor for Ward 6 for 10 years. In this position, he immersed himself in the life of Saskatoon and learned what makes our city thrive but also where we can fall short. He became part of nation-wide conversations about the increasingly important role that cities are playing as engines of innovation and ensuring quality of life for all citizens. As Councillor, and continuing on as Mayor, he is committed to bringing new ideas and approaches from other cities to Saskatoon.
Before becoming a City Councillor, much of his professional work was in the area of mediation and community economic development. He believes knowing how to find common ground among people with diverse interests and perspectives is critical if we are to succeed as a diverse and inclusive modern city.
His education includes:
• a B.A. in Conflict Resolution from the University of Winnipeg and a Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the Justice Institute of British Columbia;
• a Bachelor Degree in Education from the University of Toronto; and,
• an M.A. in Environmental Studies from York University, which trained him in the fields of planning, local government, and community capacity building.
He received Planet S Magazine’s City Councillor of the Year award for all but one of the years he was a Councillor. He was also recognized in Spacing Magazine, the national urban planning magazine, as a city builder in 2013. He has presented nationally at conferences on affordable housing, urban development, and policing and community safety issues.
He is married to Sarah Buhler, a law professor at the University of Saskatchewan, and has three young children.
